Once again, Sonoma County remained strong and pulled through another fire. The Kincade fire began in northeast Geyserville and burned through 77,758 acres that was active for 13 days. Confirmed damages and losses included 60 structures damaged, 374 structures destroyed, and 4 injuries. A LOOK BACK ON SONOMA COUNTY'S HOT HISTORY
The beautiful county of Sonoma we call home has unfortunately been kicked down several times due to wildfires. Just two years ago in 2017 the Tubbs, Nuns, Atlas, Redwood Valley, Pocket and Sulphur fires combined to destroy over 195,000 acres of the North Bay. The Valley fire of 2015 took down 76,067 acres in Sonoma, Lake and Napa counties. If we take a look a bit further back, we've gone through the Geyers' fires in 1988, 1991, 1999, 2004 and 2019, Guerneville area major fires in 1923, 1961 and 1981 and the Hanly Fire in 1966 (the more recent Tubbs fire burned this same zone). Along with Sonoma our neighbors to the north of us have a long history of fires as well. While it may seem this is an unfortunate and unavoidable cycle we've been stuck in, we need ways to be prepared for disasters while we do what we can for prevention.
